Teeing it up With Kayla Jones

We had the chance to sit down with Professional Golfer and our very own sponsored athlete, Kayla Jones, for this edition of Teeing it Off: Kayla Jones.

Q: So we have to start off by asking, as it’s only right… who is Kayla Jones’ favorite golfer?

Tiger Tiger Woods, y’all!

Q: Do you have a tournament or round in particular that really stuck out to you? For better or for worse?

Having played collegiately at Florida State (GO NOLES!), I was lucky enough to have my number called my first week of my freshman year, to play in my first NCAA event. Still growing acclimated to my new school, teammates, and newfound solidarity it was surreal to think amidst it all, ‘here I am playing competitively, representing my school proudly.’

Despite a jittery approach to the tee, I rattled off 3 quick birdies — only to come back to earth with settled nerves with a bogey on the fourth. Finishing the day free of a panic attack, I ended up shooting 69-72-68 and winning that tournament. That record still stands today and I am so very proud of the fact. Going through such a momentous occasion, I learned that it’s totally okay to not feel brave in the moment — and it’s totally okay to do it anyway. Sometimes fear is the greatest motivator.

Q: More Than A Golfer, tell us about that.

What most would consider worldly, I’ve always had an interest in a million different things at the same time. Golf is my first love, however, I also love the likes of many things such as: music, art, marketing, pick-up soccer games, writing, acting, you name it! My parents have always stressed that where it is great to be an athlete and to celebrate such a feat, one can always be more. I can always be more. Golf is what I do, but it’s certainly not who I am. The beautiful game has afforded me the opportunity to travel to places I couldn’t have imagined, with many more travels to come — but the story continues beyond this chapter. Whilst I’m on this stage with this platform, I want to change the perceptions and stigmas that follow professional golfers, making an impact every step of the way.

Q: Finally, we have to know, what kind of hot jams are you listening to out there on the range?

Oooooh, that’s a tough one. I can’t narrow on just one. Right now I have a “Range Sesh” playlist, which I recommend every golfer posses, which varies with a lot of different artists and sounds. I’d have to say my go-to jams lately have been Los Angeles based duo, They. Playlist must-haves are definitely artists like J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar who can really get you hype and in the zone. I’m really living up to my ‘having a million different interests at once’, but truly my favorite song of late has been Just Be by Nate Rose. Listen to it!
